Basically we’re just a group of friends with weird hobbies. One thing we definitely have in common is our interest in 3D printing. Jana and Michael are very talented 3D Artist who regularly create custom 3D renders for a variety of clients. Having 3D printed dozens of lame and free terrain pieces for my game tables i asked them, if they would model new printable terrain features for our games. Soon we realised, that modelling fantasy landscapes and grim dark sci-fi terrain was a lot of fun. So we decided to take the step and start working on this project seriously.
There was only one problem that could not be ignored. Creating detailed 3D models for wargaming is a lot of work. And we definitely do not want to half-ass any of it. With that realisation we then knew, we couldn’t just do several months of work and leave our regular clients and jobs behind, in hopes of a maybe successful 3D printable terrain shop. That is why we started our kickstarter campaign for our first 3d printable STL terrain set hellscape.
Hellscape is more than a terrain set. Our goal is to include all types of terrain and terrain features you would need for a thematic game on the tabletop. In a Miniwargaming Video Matt recently explained how a thematic and beautiful table makes all the difference.
Beatiful miniatures on a mediocre table do not make a beatiful scene. A beatiful table with mediocre miniatures is a whole different story.Matt from Miniwargaming
And we could not agree more. If you have ever been playing on a regular kitchen table with tupperware terrain you will know, that no matter how nice your army looks, the scene will not look good. If you take a table with a lot of interesting terrain on the other hand and put speedpainted models on it, you will get a stunning tabletop scene that would make the emperor proud.
So we agreed: we would need to create more than just scatter terrain pieces. We want to create whole thematic worlds for the most popular games. Where to start? Grimdark buildings have been done to death, and plateaued hills are way too lame for what 3D Printers are capable of. After careful consideration we wanted to start with a terrain set that is explicitly suitable for both Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar and many other games. So we decided on a theme that would match the Chaos Demos and Chaos Space Marines. With what we are planning to do, you could as well create generic landscape that isn’t even Chaos demons themed like a rough desert landscape or use our 3D models as bits in bigger more ambitout dioramas. You can read more about our hellscape terrain and our terrain kickstarter campaing.
The bottom line is: We at Forge of Heresy want to create stunning tabletop terrain you can print at home. Is there anything missing from our terrain sets? Do you have ideas for other terrain features? You can contact us for those things. If you feel like we are doing a good job, and want to support our cause: Check out our kickstarter campaign. It would mean the world to us.
